Bridges in Indianapolis, IN

A dental bridge is a prosthetic restoration that is used to replace a single missing tooth or several missing teeth in a row. It is bonded to the remaining healthy teeth on either side of the gap created by the missing tooth or teeth. The bridge is a permanent restoration and cannot be removed.

The main goal of a dental bridge is to restore form and function to your smile.

A bridge consists of one or more artificial teeth, referred to as pontics, and dental crowns that are placed on either side of the gap left by the missing tooth or teeth. The dental crowns are fitted over the adjacent natural teeth, and the pontics are cemented onto the bridge. This creates a strong, durable replacement that mimics the function of natural teeth.

What Are the Benefits of a Dental Bridge?

There are many benefits to getting a dental bridge to replace a missing tooth. Dental bridges do not require surgery, they are made from strong materials that can withstand normal biting forces, and can last many years without needing to be replaced.

Since they are permanent, dental bridges offer excellent functionality, allowing you to speak and chew normally. Dental bridges also look like natural teeth, so you won’t feel self-conscious about them.

What Is the Procedure for Getting a Bridge?

During your initial consultation, the dentist will take X-rays of your teeth and use them to assess the condition of the teeth and determine your candidacy for this type of prosthetic restoration.

Then, the dentist will take digital impressions of your teeth and share them with the dental laboratory that fabricates the bridge. The fabrication process usually takes a week or two.

During this time, you will be fitted with a temporary bridge to allow you to maintain your oral functions and protect the prepared site from oral bacteria and hypersensitivity. Next, once the bridge is ready, we will remove the temporary restoration and place the permanent one.

The dentist will check for a suitable fit and ensure the bridge doesn’t slip or move. Once the fit is confirmed, we will etch the surface of the neighboring teeth using an etching solution and bond the bridge permanently in place using dental adhesives.
